Howdy!

Just updated the forum software and (cross-fingers) nothing has broke yet... Huzzah! Slight change in appearance/theme(for now)and a lot of improvements under the hood.

It should be much faster and more stable now.

Time will tell!

Happy Trails.

Okay, so in an effort to get it out as soon as possible, and as eco friendly as possible..I have posted it online. It is now a myspace page, and is currently under construction.
Only students and faculty of THIS SCHOOL YEAR (08-09) will be friends and permitted to see the whole thing.
I will be the only one who has control of the page to prevent confusion and to reinforce the guidelines. There are absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS to this.
The page is http://www.myspace.com/atheneumschool

I will make an anouncement on Monday, May 18th with all of the details.

If you would like to contact me please email me at strangetink@yahoo.com

Kevin and Lydia told everyone what WE'RE DOING WRONG... and I'm trying to make an effort to change that, why isn't anyone else. This is rediculas, is it that hard to wake up at a certain time, enough time in the morning to wake up, eat breakfast, take a shower, grab your things and drive somewhere. its not that hard.
As people we have pride, but this school's students, this school in general HAS TOO MUCH PRIDE.... and its all fulled by "no one else is reading the readings you're reading." None of us stop and realize what we're doing wrong. Kevin and Lydia obviously see it, but the rest of us students are ignorant, greedy, spoiled, children. We MUST have constant entertainment, when at this age, we shouldn't have to rely on school as a baby sitter. This IS SUPOSED TO BE a College Prepotory School..... Why don't we all start treating it that way.

Well after some thought and several failed attempts with the avatar plugin, I've decided to stay with Gravatar indefinitely. Why Gravatar and not localized avatars?

It is so simple to use and it carries over to many other sites besides the Atheneum site. If you ever set up a personal blog at wordpress.com you will already have an avatar. If you set up an account with "intense Debate" which I just set up for our site here, you will also have an avatar. There are many, many others and I think that they are just getting started with their world-domination army of Gravatars.

I don't know about you but when it comes to the little stuff, I don't want to spend more time on it than necessary, so Gravatar it is!

As far as your link goes, everything was perfect except for your missing text between the brackets "pos=0]....." You could put anything there, like PowderCover.

Then it would look like this: PowderCover

...or you could just post the url like you did!

Hello, Community
My name is Tim, I'm a senior at Atheneum and Into skiing filmwork, and photography. I found a contest where I can mix two of those hobby's and need your help to win. The grand prize is a ski trip in Utah, and I'd love to win it. All you have to do is go to this link:

and vote 5 stars...the rating shows up under the picture.

Thanks

Heya! More Forum goodness:

Added polls to the forums today and they seem to be working properly!

I also discovered a bug! When you try to delete a single post you get an error message. It's not a serious bug, only a nuisance and the post is still deleted so disregard the error message. Not sure why it's doing that and it's being tracked at BBpress "HQ".

If you delete the topic instead of the single post, you do not get this error.

Happy Trails!

It has recently come to my attention that the site doesn't look quite the same with Explorer 6 or less. Internet Explorer 6 is really not a good browser and 7 is just passable. At least 7 can read .png files which earlier explorer browsers can not. It just so happens that I'm using a lot of .png files in this site going forward. I checked out the forums with IE6 today and about choked on my lunch... Not good!

I recommend downloading FireFox. It is very secure, it is fast, it supports the latest technologies, it is open source, supported by thousands of designers, and it is supported by the "not for profit" Mozilla foundation (or so they say).

What Mozilla has publicly stated:
The common thread that runs throughout Mozilla is our belief that, as the most significant social and technological development of our time, the Internet is a public resource that must remain open and accessible to all. With this in mind, our efforts are ultimately driven by our mission of encouraging choice, innovation and opportunity online.

Plus, using FireFox will make the Atheneum site look better!

For those of you that want to upload an avatar, I would like to recommend: Gravatar!

As long as the email you register with them is the same as the one you're using here, you will have an avatar. Presto Whamo cookies sandwiches!

BBpress will have its own avatar system in the future, in fact I'm in the process of loading a plugin for it. If you notice the avatar tab, it doesn't work yet (for some reason it doesn't play nice with the server).

Gravatar is a good choice until then and your "gravatar" will even carry over to the main site.

Thanks for the kind words Kevin!

As you can see, I have not stopped yet, I just keep tweaking, tuning, crashing, burning, cheering and...

I'm having a blast working on the site and the forums, helping in any way I can, is satisfaction enough. To give a little of myself back to the process that has given me so much, is a reward I will not take lightly. For a long time now, I have reaped the rewards that I had won through the seminars back at Steller. The Atheneum is one of the most exciting schools on the planet! If only more people knew...

This is where the site could help! We can (hopefully) get the discussions flowing in the forums, have live hosted podcasts, tutorial screencasts of the atheneum process, bring people from outside to join in the discussion, to contribute, spread the word!

Anything you guys need, just ask! I'm here to help.

WOW How do you like our new website? So Much Thanks to Ted Collins for reconstructing and designing our new look! Ted has been supporting and helping Atheneum School since its conception. Even before this, he was involved in seminars at Steller School in the 80's when we were first getting started. He participated in the very serious seminar class at Steller that inspired us to go forward with the Paideia Project and eventually Atheneum School! Thank You TED!!

We are on an important enrollment drive this winter into the spring for second semester '09 or next Fall '10. We need more students to achieve our goal of purchasing or leasing a building of our own next year. Also, our program works best with one class of 10-15 students at each grade level. Please think of all your acquaintances or friends whose children are unchallenged, wasting time, or just not working in other schools! We have classics and cutting edge technologies most relevant for our times of change. Dialogue is emerging as the important skill for everyone, including our new President. Where else can students daily practice the conversation that transcends the issues and creates ideas better than either competing side? what other school gives such an opportunity to study renewable energies and discusses all possible energy solution for our critical future? Please ask people to call or visit; we can do the rest! Let's provide more students with an Atheneum education. Be sure to ask if you have questions about the school or how to talk to people about enrollment, thank you, Kevin

TedC on "BBpress 1.0 goes live!"

Well, after a lot of unnecessary work (I have a nasty habit of leaping before I look), we have the forums I wanted from the beginning. Luckily, we didn't have much activity yet on the previous, so the migration was swift and painless!

What is cool about BBpress?

It is totally integrated with our Atheneum site, so you only have to log in once. BBpress is coded smart, which means it will have a very fast bandwidth! It will run lean and mean, so the Atheneum site will have a light footprint while still delivering its big message! There are a lot more pro's, so check them out at: http://bbpress.org

What is not so cool?

The only 'not cool' thing about BBpress, is that it is still in its alpha stage, so there might be some bumps along the way. But hang tight, it will be worth it. Not a lot of sites (overall) running with a fully integrated BBpress/Wordpress front-end out there, so we're on the cutting edge!

Enjoy!
