Atheneum is on the move during the 2009 Spring Intensives!
Our travels will be taking our school to both Iceland and Girdwood!*
While in Girdwood, Atheneum students will study a couple of our favorite outdoor sports: skiing and snowboarding. The intensive will study the history of skiing and snowboarding, the progression of the equipment and themes involved in these sports such as judgment, courage and risk. Students will be expected to gain an understanding of snow, terrain, and safety and participate in eight hours of lessons each. Most importantly we will get outside and enjoy our time together as a community.
We are also looking into the possibility of having one or two overnight stays in Girdwood. Staying in Girdwood would save on gas and time. If there are any families interested in hosting our group or allowing us to stay in their home we would greatly appreciate it. We are hoping to extend school hours to take full advantage of our time on the hill and are tentatively planning for 8am to 5 pm. Please let us know if there are any concerns or inconveniences regarding the later pick-up time or costs.
